Art Walk DesignThis is just ONE vision for the Northeast Central Ave Art Walk from Broadway to 27th, the border of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District. Reach out and tell us your ideas! ![]() The next step for the Central Ave Art Walk is SPACE. MNDoT's street reconstruction designs must include enough space for art pieces and weekly street market stalls. We need just 4 more feet on the west side of Central Ave. This will give us an 8 ft sidewalk and an 11 ft boulevard area. The boulevard area is the key. This will allow us to preserve the trees that are currently there, install lots of great permanent art pieces, and host weekly street markets. With this expanded boulevard space we can activate Central's pedestrian areas, calm traffic, support Northeast's artists and local businesses, and make everyone feel more comfortable walking the avenue. And we can do it all every day without disturbing traffic or closing parking spaces. These four extra feet give us everything in MNDoT's current design plan PLUS a world class art walk worthy of the best arts district in America. Here's how we think we can make it happen... ![]() ![]() ![]() Click to see larger image The Art Walk will also include two massive "gateways" at the entrances to the Arts District at Central & Broadway and Central & Lowry. These will require MNDoT to set aside 8 art pads (15 x 15'), one for each corner of these two intersections. (Click below) ![]() ![]() ![]() |
